Today marks a significant milestone for Truly Independent as we bid farewell to one of our esteemed advisers, David Illingworth, who is retiring after over a decade of dedicated service as a self-employed financial adviser at Truly Independent. As David embarks on this new chapter of his life, it’s a fitting moment to reflect on his journey with us and the invaluable contributions he has made to our company.
David’s journey with Truly Independent began with a single meeting with Andrew Goodwin (Truly Independent CEO), where he was instantly drawn to the company’s vision. “I was looking to work independently as a self-employed adviser, and a single meeting with Andrew sold the company to me,” he recalls. This initial attraction laid the foundation for a fruitful partnership that has flourished over the years.
Describing his overall experience as a self-employed adviser at Truly Independent, David emphasises his experience as nothing short of “excellent.”
“The autonomy afforded to work independently with the compliance, regulatory, and marketing support provided by head office, has given me a fantastic work/life balance.” This balance between independence and support underscores the unique culture fostered within our company.
When asked if he would recommend Truly Independent to other self-employed advisers, David’s response is unequivocal. “Absolutely yes,” he asserts. He highlights the comprehensive support structure provided by Truly Independent, from compliance and administration support to regular meet-ups with colleagues through Affinity events. This sense of belonging to a larger community while maintaining independence is a hallmark of Truly Independent’s approach.
As David prepares for retirement, he has opted to utilise Truly Independent’s succession plan. Reflecting on his decision, he notes, “Truly’s succession plan has been a smooth transition for my clients and a hassle-free exit for myself, at a fair price,”. His confidence in the succession plan speaks volumes about the trust he has in the Truly Independent to safeguard his legacy and ensure continuity for his clients through Truly Private Clients.
Throughout the succession planning process, David expresses satisfaction with the support and guidance provided by Truly Independent. “I have received good communications and support to enable me to hand over clients to my successor,” he remarks. This seamless transition underscores the effectiveness of Truly Independent’s commitment to preserving the legacy of its advisers’ practices.
As we bid farewell to David Illingworth, we extend our heartfelt gratitude for his years of service, dedication, and invaluable contributions to Truly Independent. We wish him all the best in his well-deserved retirement and trust that his next chapter will be as fulfilling as his time with us has been.
